Greeting the readers of the channel!
Today we will talk about history. Many people know that India was the colony of Great Britain for several centuries. Today, I would like to briefly tell how the UK managed to conquer a whole subcontinent. It all started with how in the middle of the 15th century, the Omman Turks won Constantinople and established their domination in the Eastern Mediterranean. Therefore, goods running from the east to Europe have become more expensive because the trading routes were controlled by the Ottoman Empire. Looking at what is happening, Europeans, represented by Spaniards and Portuguese, decided to go and find a journey to India and Malacca, to explore the same spices and other goods.
Already after the opening of the American continent, Portuguese and Dutch merchants began to wrap up to India. Then, the Portuguese managed to capture small land of sushi on the coast of India and establish marine bases there. But, luck in the seizure of Indian Territories turned out to be in the avenue from the British. Here they acted, initially, diplomatic and peaceful methods. On December 31, 1600, the English Queen Elizabeth I created its decree a joint-stock company called the British East India Company. This company received great rights to carry out trade transactions in India on behalf of the English crown. Thanks to the British East India Company, the United Kingdom managed to establish its full control over India and other countries of the East, such as Malacca and Burma.
In the early 17th century, the Padisham of the Empire of the Great Mogolov gave the British Estra-Indian company a permit for trade and justification in Bombay. Then, after some time, the British settled already in Bengal and built the city of Calcutta. After the appearance of the French at the end of the 17th century in India, they began confrontation with the British. The point of reference to the beginning of the military expansion of the British in India, became the defeat of the Bengal ruler under the command of Robert Clive in 1757. During the seven-year war 1756-1763. Rivalry of Great Britain and France for domination in India comes to an end. France suffers defeat, leaving only some reference points on the coast. After that, the UK was «untied hands» to conquer all India.
In fact, the British on the cunning conquered India. They were imposed by the Indian local government, such agreements, which, as a result, put them under the authority of the UK. The British helped military facilities controlled by the principalities in the defeat of their neighboring rulers, who were also under the control of the British crown. Specifically, let’s say, the British decided to put control of the neighboring ruler. They raised to the military confrontation, helped and, in the end, subordinate to themselves the loser side. The United Kingdom, at first did not make a colonial possession from India. The British Crown in India was represented by the British East India Company. The tasks of the company were the organization of trade and protection of English trade and economic interests in India.
By the way, the United Kingdom, for a long time, formally, did not control the territory of India. Only economic management through the East India Company. India was formally independent. The Empire of the Great Mughal continued to exist on its territory. Also, there were small principalities. By the beginning of the 20th century there were several hundred. The rulers — Raji of these principalities, controlled the territories of their principalities and kept their power on the ground. But, in fact, the entire territory of India, turned out to be completely subordinated to the British Empire from an economic point of view.
After the suppression of the Indian folk uprising in 1857-1858, or as it is also called — the «rebellion of Sipaev» — the British installed in India direct control of the British crown, introducing in 1858 the «act of best management of India» in 1858. The company’s troops transferred to the corona service. The Empire of the Great Mughal These act was officially liquidated. The Ost-India Company itself was eliminated in 1874. In 1876, the Queen of Great Britain Victoria was proclaimed by the Empress of India. Thus, the Indian subcontinent fully turned out to be formally subordinate to the British Empire. Local minor rulers have retained only the nominal power in the field. Economically they completely depended on Britain, and politically too. Since, formally, the only official authority in India remained the colonial administration of the British Empire.
